This was just a conglomeration of practicing random things, so it looks rather piecy. ^^;

I've seen a bit of Deleter around; would you say it's easier to work in than photoshop?

Amazing painting~~

Wow, this is beautiful! It reminds me of some of *heise's work, just a little. He has a lovely face, and I like your attention to all the little details. I want that necklace. O.o
The background also works very well. It's not so busy and focused that it takes away from the figure in the foreground... and the hidden (or maybe they're not so hidden) butterflies are an added little surprise. Well done.

Heise is one of my idols! Thank you!

The details kind of grew on their own. I just kept adding and adding.

Thank you so much! :hug:

You draw plenty of inspiration from Nomura, but the piece also reeks highly of gothic flair. You can sense that a mile away.

The trees look good. Going all black saves your sanity in the long run.

The face and eye to the right are interesting to behold. Various experiments on the page suggest you littered certain areas with various effects. Perhaps you could tell us about those experiments, in light of the results they offer (which, by the way, happen to be pretty good).

It seems like the hair casts a shadow over the face, based on the light source from the left. The right sections of the face ought to have more shading, since it looks like back-lighting was used. I may be wrong. If someone did a black and white, they'd omit a chunk of the right side of that face into black. That's what I think, at least.

Now I said Nomura, since the first thing that came to my mind was "Ethnically-consistent Squall Leonheart," provided that Japanese artists might draw specifically to their ethnicity (I doubt that's the case, of course). It certainly looks like a different version of Squall, but the skull threw me back and made me erase the idea from my head, squarely on the basis that Squall likes lions. Don't kill me--that's my initial sentiment.

Other than that, it's okay, I suppose. Whatever your experiments were, they came out good in the end. Wonder if you'll try them again sometime?

I didn't use any effects, per se, since I didn't have any filters available, but I tried to get different looks by lightly applying brushes.

The shading on the face gave me so much trouble! I had no photo reference, so I just winged it.

It wasn't supposed to look anything like Squall, actually. ^^; I played FF8 for all of five minutes, developed a severe hatred for Squall's annoyingness, and then replayed FF7. :3 I don't even think about drawing Squall, so any similarity is a complete coincidence!

You know, I write in the FF8 universe, and guess what? I write about all the side characters. Squall, Zell, Irvine, Selphie, and Quistis do not get a great deal of time. I talk about all the side characters, how Guardian Forces cause severe memory degradation, and why Laguna must be the goofiest guy I've ever seen in a video game. Then I branch off to VII, X, and Tactics, and see what they know...

Squall had been a pain in the ass, I'll admit, but I get around things like that. And I find VIII more satisfying than VII more often than not (except for Squall--nearly ruined that).

I'll always be fan of FF7 first no matter what. :D

what I like best is the way the dead tree branches seem to form up in the background to form a web behind him.

His expression is pretty mysterious, I can't figure out whether he is angry or indifferent.

For some reason, I keep imagining that thing at the center/left section of the picture to be a dragon's head pointing down.

Anyone else see that?

And finally, great work on the hair,

Overall,
Grade A+++++++++++++ work as usual.

The trees were kind of fun to do. And he has a "die you insignificant human!" look. :D
